Green Juicing 101

Green juice fasts work well to give you energy in the morning - breaking the fast - or to detox.
Tools: Purchase a durable juicer. I prefer Omega 8005 (http://www.omegajuicers.com/) or the Champion Juicer (http://www.championjuicer.com/).
Produce: Search for the freshest produce at your local farmers market or organic grocer for local, organic greens and condiments.
What to get:Kale, collard greens, rainbow chard, parsley, dandelion, spinach, mustard greens, lemons and ginger root. Tumeric and cilantro are also great to add sparingly.
Preparations: Wash and dry your veggies well with natural citrus cleaners, lemon juice, baking soda and/or distilled water. Make sure you slice your produce to properly fit inside your juicer.
Depending on how much juice you'd like to make...
8 oz glass
Carefully tear apart two full stems of kale, one collard green, half a mustard green, four to six stems of dandelion, a fist full of parsley, a handfull of spinach and a stem of rainbow card into your juicer, slowly, so that they fit without clogging the spout. Slice up a whole lemon and about a thumb's size of ginger, as well.
Note: Make sure to consume your juice immediately, for the nutrients and minerals lose their potency after 1 to 30 minutes. Do not store your juice in the refrigerator for later consumption as mold, fungus and bacteria are likely to invade your live-food beverage. Make only what you and your family can consume within that one minute to 30-minute mark. Enjoy!
